Hi!
My name is Katie Stasen and I am one of the high school Social Studies
teachers at V.L.T. Academy. This is my first year teaching and look
forward to not only teaching but learning a lot as well.
I
am a graduate of The Ohio State University with a BA in Mass Communications
where I worked in radio upon gradating. I went on to graduate with a MS
in Education from The University of Akron, specializing in Social
Studies. I completed my student teaching with the Department of Defense
in Naples, Italy and loved experiencing the Italian culture while I was
there. Outside of teaching I love to play softball and volleyball,
travel, read and cheer on my Ohio State Buckeyes.

Hello, my name is Bryon Jones. I was born and raised in
Indianapolis, IN, and am the oldest of five brothers. I attended
Indiana University, and graduated with bachelor's degrees in Biology,
History, and Secondary Education. In addition to teaching, my interests
include sports (football and baseball, in particular), reading, and
movies. I also enjoy biking, traveling, and spending time with
friends and family. I am excited to start my second year with the
V.L.T. Academy students. I am ready to
prepare my students to become life-long learners. Go Panthers!

Honors World History – 1500 to Present
Elective
One semester/ one credit
Prerequisite: Placement based off of OAT scores and teacher
recommendation.
The
one-semester course will examine and analyze the nature of changes in international frameworks and their causes and
consequences, as well as comparisons among major societies. Particular concentration will be focused on
WWI, WWII, and the Cold War. From these
significant events a system of ideas and standards appeared that shaped
subsequent historical periods. This is a
college prep course that motivates rising high school students to experience
undergraduate life both academically and socially.
Students
will focus on not only the events that comprised the historical stages, but,
they will also evaluate and examine the interaction of these events
incorporating problem solving skills.
Geography and Government, in particular, will be a constant in
explaining and comprehending world cultures.
Honors U.S. History
Elective
One semester/ one credit
Prerequisite: A or B in Honors
World History or teacher recommendation
The one-semester course will examine and analyze
the foundation of United States History to the present, covering major events
and concepts of American heritage. The
course allows a study of the our country according to five major themes:
establishment of a national government, extension
of democracy, industrialism and westward expansion, democratic reforms and
foreign affairs of the 20th century, and challenges and triumphs on
the domestic front in the 21st century.
Students
will focus on not only the events that comprised the historical stages, but,
they will also evaluate and examine the interaction of these events
incorporating problem solving skills.
