From the Office of the Superintendent

Superintendent Valerie E. Leeby Valerie E. Lee, Superintendent

At VLT Academy, we are committed to offering quality instruction that engages students. We strongly encourage students, parents, teachers and community leaders to join together for the common goal of a better tomorrow. Today VLT Academy is home to a family of life long learners where our motto is “We Value Learning from the beginning to the End.

We realize that every school feels it is unique among charter schools and to fully appreciate what we do and what makes us special at VLT Academy, you need to visit and experience firsthand the inner workings of the school. As you tour our buildings, we believe you’ll notice the quality of the relationship between student and teacher and the high standard of learning taking place. We strive to maintain a unique educational atmosphere which still has the warmth of a small group of friends and yet is known for its serious and challenging academics. We’ve come to rely on the steadfastness of many members of our school’s administration.

At VLT Academy our goal is to safely guide our students toward the desire to become College Bound Students. We have implemented several initiatives; in the area of technology we have created three computer labs that assist students in their preparation for the OAT, OGT, and the Diagnostic tests. We also have incorporated classroom sets of computers to assist teachers and students with ongoing technology enrichment. We have adopted Scientifically Proven Accelerated Reader, Success Maker, Study Island and Scantron Assessment. Our on-going staff development focuses on the quality of instruction to ensure a strong an effective learning environment.

Mission Statement

Mission

Our mission is providing all students a superior, comprehensive education that meets their individual needs. Value Learning and Teaching Academy will create a diverse, safe, supportive environment, which promotes self-discipline, motivation and excellence in learning.

Our students will acquire a mindset of seeking knowledge from the beginning of their educational journey toward a never-ending thirst for more. This will be accomplished by making sure all aspects of the school’s organization, curriculum and extra-curricular activities are child centered and designed to accommodate individual learning styles that focus on student achievement.

VLT Academy will ensure a successful partnership with students, teachers, parents and the community as they become productive in a safe and orderly environment.

Children’s Buy-In Program

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services began the Childrenʼs Buy-In (CBI) program in April. CBI was expected to cover 5,000 kids with special health needs whose working parents were struggling to cover their health care costs. So far, only two children have successfully been enrolled. Part of this is due to the eligibility requirements and the other is simply because families arenʼt aware of the program. CBI targets working families with income ABOVE $42,000 per year. To date, 90 percent of those who have applied have actually been under income. If you are interested please click the CBI Web site link  http://jfs.ohio.gov/OHP/cbi/ you can only apply online at this time.

If you need help with the CBI application, please call: 1-877-872-8042
